Distinguished Wayzata resident and volunteer community leader Dan Day was presented with a Community Service Award by Lake Minnetonka Chapter DAR Regent Michelle White during festivities at the 20th annual July 4th Pancake Breakfast at the Wayzata Depot.
The Wayzata Fire Department was founded in 1893 and unlike larger city fire departments, it is staffed entirely with volunteer firefighters who have kept our city safe for over a century.
Among these courageous and dedicated volunteers is Dan Day who has faithfully served in the Wayzata Fire Department for the past 41 years. In recognition of his faithful service, Mr. Day was made an officer of the department in 2003 and named Assistant Fire Chief in 2012
In addition to his work in the Fire Department, Mr. Day is also Chair of the City of Wayzata Charter Commission responsible for ensuring thoughtful and effective civic administration of the city’s government.
Beyond his official roles, Mr. Day is a visible and enthusiastic presence in the community. He is an active volunteer at local events such as James J. Hill Days and the 4th of July Pancake Breakfast at the Wayzata Depot. He enjoys giving fire house tours and fire safety presentations to students and interested citizens.
He is a particularly beloved supporter of the Lake Minnetonka Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), who sponsor the annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast. Mr. Day provided numerous logistical ideas for the 2025 breakfast that will enable the C.A.R. to make a significant monetary contribution to Believet Canine Service Partners, an organization that trains and provides service dogs to veterans injured in the line of duty.
“Dan is an absolute joy to be around,” says Laura Roth, Senior State President C.A.R. “He is the perfect combination of hard-working community member and fun-loving guy. He’s a wonderful mentor to our C.A.R. kids.”
“The DAR’s Community Service Award honors individuals who make outstanding contributions to their community through voluntary heroic, civic, and benevolent service,” says White. “Dan Day embodies these ideals and it is a privilege for us to publicly recognize his work.”
